The Importance of a Triangle in Your Kitchen Area

“The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side.” The Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz got it right, but has your kitchen? The work triangle is key in setting up your dream kitchen design.watch movie now

The Work Triangle

Think about how you use your kitchen. You prepare your food, cook it, then clean. These are the three basic uses for your kitchen, so why run across the room to put something in the dishwasher or pull something out of the fridge? The work triangle allows for you to have everything you need within 5 feet of each other.

Clean Sink Area

Your sink seems like the last thing you think of when preparing a meal, but where else will you toss those dirty dishes? Making sure that your sink is close to both your preparation area and cooking station is key to an easy-to-use kitchen.

Cooking Accessibility

Why are so many microwaves paced above the stove? To ease your cooking ability! Keeping the stove, microwave or other cooking stations near your preparation area and your storage area makes it easy to go between one dish to the next.

Storage Availability

Could you deal without a refrigerator? What about a pantry? These beauties are home to the most important part of your kitchen – the food! You want to make sure that you have a close enough distance between your cooking area and preparation zone to pick up those missing ingredients, as well as put away your leftovers in record time.

Preparation

While the preparation station isn’t technically part of the triangle, it is key to an aesthetic kitchen design. Ideally, this can fall between any of the above triangle stations to make it easy to cut and prepare your food.

Fitting the triangle in your kitchen design is simple. Follow one of the four main layouts to accommodate the work triangle you need in your redecoration.

Gallery Style Setup

A gallery design is efficient, but lacks counter space.

L-Shaped Kitchen Design

The most popular kitchen design allows for foot traffic in the work triangle to be avoided entirely.

U-Shaped Island

Looking to add an island? The U design is ideal to surround you with everything you need.

Peninsula G-Shape Design

Counter space is key in this G-shaped design. It is great for connecting your kitchen to your dining area.

  1. Those plastic straoge tubs have been a lifesaver for me. You can get a lot into them, and stack them in your closets, and even in your garage with no worries that mice will damage your things.Try buying one of those rolling butcher block islands for your kitchen. They come in different sizes, and have shelving/storage. You could keep it in another part of the house with all your baking necessities, and then roll it into the kitchen when needed for extra counter space.

  2. Really liked what you had to say in your post, The Importance of a Triangle in Your Kitchen Area, thanks for the good read!
