Designer Q&A – Natalie

NATALIE

Affordable Kitchens, Baths & Appliances

How would you describe your personal design style?

Transitional—simple clean lines, classic, but with slightly rustic touches.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

The “puzzle” aspect.  Thinking outside the box and coming up with unique layouts and designs. I also enjoy maximizing space for a client’s small kitchen.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for people remodeling their kitchen or bath?

Don’t start right before a big event or holiday. Plan ahead & know it WON’T happen overnight like on HGTV.

What are some of your favorite resources for kitchen & bath inspiration?

Houzz.com, Pinterest and Google Images (for specific ideas).

What is your favorite trend in kitchen or bath design at the moment?

“Upcycling”—transforming old furniture or other pieces into unique islands or vanities.

What would your dream kitchen look like?

I have a lot of kitchen styles that I like . . . each one would go in a different “dream house.” I always go for clean, straight lines, simple and not overly ornate.

Natalie’s “dream kitchen” for a historic home.

For my “dream historic home” —  I’d go for turn of the century, Rehab Addict/Nicole Curtis-style . . . original woodwork, inset cabinets, subway tile, period molding details, painted cabinets, built-ins, reclaimed wood, exposed brick, Edison bulbs, hutch/pie safe, etc.

For my “dream Craftsman/’Arts & Crafts’ Bungalow (ala Frank Lloyd Wright, Rennie Mackintosh) — Modern rustic, stacked stone, reclaimed wood, wood cabinets, lots of open shelving . . .

For my “dream beach house” — I’d go modern. Crisp, bright, some reclaimed drift wood, sea glass, glossy white cabinets mixed w/ glass doors and metal framed doors, some open shelving . . .
